This book is all about sisterhood, the different ways to be a woman, and how to lift each other up-through the eyes of 6 women in their 80s and one teenager. It’s got witches, it’s got a heist, it’s got mostly angry but a few good men. What’s not to like? I was excited to pick up this book because I really admire the author, Bianca Marais. Her podcast, The Shit No One Tells You About Writing is invaluable, and I’ve taken a number of her classes. It took me a bit to get into the story but once it got rolling, it captivated me through to the end. The part I loved the most was unexpected- there are a couple queer characters that really surprised me and I thought their journeys and identity were handled expertly. In the end, I was left wondering how I can create my own Manor of witchy women, and can it please have a billious and rage room?
Short summary: When a mob shows up outside their home demanding mortgage money they don’t have, the witches must come up with a plan to find the money. Unfortunately, that’s the just the start of their problems and what unfolds is a race to save their house and themselves.
