This book has a fun concept and it reeled me in and kept me turning the pages, but ultimately it missed the mark for me. First, I didn’t feel the chemistry. Second, some of the dialogue was stiff- especially the parts with Zach. Third, the romance felt forced and they didn’t discuss the age gap, which I think is odd since the president has a 12yo son, so that’s extra relevant. All that said, the political talks were interesting- even if they were mostly one-sided. I did want to see more of the president’s job from an international perspective- the glance we got was mostly National state dinners or campaign stuff.

Short summary: Emily has just started her job as the youngest and first female head heart surgeon at a prestigious DC hospital. On one of her first days, she’s tasked with treating the president’s son. Through a series of events, she’s face to face with the president, and is that attraction Emily sees in her eyes? As they start to date, they must overcome the obstacles of two high-achieving women’s schedules, the scrutiny of being a president, and political maneuvering.
