I had a hard time rating this one. On the one hand, it’s an easy breezy romance with a substantive subtheme which I can’t reveal without giving away a lot of the plot. On the other, it was a bit repetitive, and the other themes felt belabored. Most of the tension is wrapped around Grace being a commitment-phobe and Lia being a talker. I struggled with Grace’s character because whenever she called Lia out for wanting to “talk things to death,” it felt insulting…probably because I am that way! Definitely a critique of the character, not the author, it was just hard to read at times. At the same time, Lacey did a great job of explaining Grace’s motivations – to the extent that I felt she was more the protagonist than Lia. I really liked Lia. I appreciated that she was so straight forward – there were no misunderstandings and she was mature for the most part, which is refreshing. And I didn’t think she talked that much… Which leads me to also say that Lacey is great at writing realistic dialogue. The end was a bit too cheesy for me and the romance timeline was too short, but I will say I think this book had Lacey’s best steamy scenes yet.

Short summary: Lia is desperate for love. All her friends have it and she’s tired of being the third wheel. Grace is happily alone and that’s all there is to it; who needs love when you’re happy with yourself? Until she meets Lia and agrees to be her fake date to a wedding, where they’re stuck sharing one bed, and well, you can guess the rest.
