I love Emily Henry’s writing and this was no exception. However, this book lacked plot for me. There was too much backstory, which made it hard for me to engage at first. There were coincidences that felt contrived. And the main love interests were so good at communicating (yay!) until they really weren’t (boo). So this was going to be a 3 for me UNTIL the last 60 pages. Which reminded me how masterful Henry is at bringing a story together and tugging on heartstrings- yes, I cried. More than once. It’s cheesy but what was so beautiful to me were two things: her way of showing how found family can truly be family (but also providing examples of lovely families of origin); and the theme of happiness, which is almost overly hammered home but in the end, rings so true and so of-the-moment. Queer rep: of the three couples, one is lesbians 🙌

Short summary: Harriett and Wyn are part of an inseparable friend group of 6 (3 couples) who have drifted apart but reunite for a magical week at the lake house that has always been the happiest place for them all. Except, Harriett and Wyn are not together any more and haven’t told their friends for fear of breaking up the band. They decide to keep the secret for one last week…how hard can it be? (Second chance & fake dating, ooh la la)
