I always get a rush reading Emily Henry’s books because she’s such a good writer and balances humor and pain so well. I ached for both Miles and Daphne, and loved that the grumpy/sunshine trope was flipped with Daphne being the grumpy one. Their relationship was raw and beautiful. What kept it from 5 stars for me is I wanted a tiny bit more on Miles’ and Daphne’s origin stories and their resolution and it also took me a minute to fully wrap my head around Daphne’s personality. I loved Ashleigh and Julia and Daphne’s mom. I loved that these characters live in a queer norm world. And I loved the backstage look at a day in the life of a librarian (shout out to Dragon’s Love Tacos!). Queer rep: sprinkled references.
Short summary: When Daphne’s dumped by her fiancé for his best friend and given one week to move out, her best option is the extra bedroom in her ex-fiancé’s new girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend apartment. And if that’s not complicated enough, she accidentally tells her ex-fiancé they’re now dating.
