Ali Hazelwood writes STEM and Steam so well. 🥵…did not know knotting was a thing… I loved the friendship connection between Misery and Serena. The themes of found family and belonging were also handled really well. Sometimes I thought Lowe was a bit bossy but comes with the wolfy territory, and the third act break wasn’t my favorite. As a writer, though, I loved seeing how the mystery element unfolded. I thoroughly enjoyed Misery’s character and her voice, and couldn’t put the book down. Queer rep: tertiary characters, respect for non-penetrative sex.

Short summary: Misery’s hiding out as a human minding her own business when she’s asked to serve as Collateral for the vampyres again, this time in Were territory. She has an ulterior motive that has her saying yes. But her new faux-husband can’t stand her and everything about her new home is foreign, until she meets her precocious young sister-in-law who changes the way she sees everything.
