This is a complex family saga beautifully woven together over decades. It centers on one woman’s life, her friends, parents and children. Each character is somewhat of a misfit searching for answers and acceptance. There’s mystery at play too. I enjoyed the second half much more than the first- I thought the stakes were higher. It’s fast paced but there’re so many POV’s and so much POV and time switching that it sometimes took me out of the story. I found some of it to be repetitive too. But on the whole, she pulls it off and I found the ending satisfying but also bittersweet. I wish this book came with black cake on the side!

Note: there are two queer storylines; this is not a romance.

Short summary: This is the story of a woman making sense of her life, and her children trying to understand her choices after her passing.
