I liked the concept of this book which made me keep reading, but some other elements weren’t all the way there for me. Namely, the romance. I didn’t feel the chemistry. It’s a very slow burn courtship- which is understandable in context but I was missing the burn element. And then when it came it was instant and forever and that threw me off. Otherwise though, I think the author did a good job exploring the pros and cons of a modern monarchy.
Short summary: Palmer is on vacation in St. Rais, when she learns most of the monarchy is murdered and there is a new queen. As a reporter, she’s tasked with covering the story and never expects to fall for her subject, the reserved, elegant young woman now leading the country how deflects whenever future husbands are mentioned.
