This is a retelling of beauty and the beast that quickly takes on a mind of its own with lots of twists and faerie turns. The MC is 19, so I’m not sure if that’s YA or adult- it felt on the cusp to me. One thing I found challenging was there are a few times where Feyre does things that are reckless which I felt were out of character since her most prominent skill is self preservation. There were also a couple points in her romantic relationships that walked a fine line. Other than that, it was inventive, and full of good tension. I wasn’t expecting the way it played out in the end, which was a great surprise. I liked the side characters too and the MC’s growth. Excited to see what’s to come in the series. Low steam.

Short summary: When Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, she hopes its size doesn’t mean it’s a faerie. Unfortunately it is and an age-old treaty demands that she pay with her life- she can either die or return with the beast who calls to collect. She’s taken to a dangerous land to live out her days with a lethal man she knows nothing about. But something is off and the more she learns, the more things aren’t what they seem.
